Akmal Shines with Century for Pakistan Champions
LEEDS: In the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal delivered a blistering century, steering Pakistan Champions to a formidable total against West Indies Champions. The match occurred at Headingley on Saturday as part of the tournament’s 11th fixture.
After electing to bat, the Pakistan Champions, who were the runners-up in the previous tournament, posted an impressive 200/4 in their 20 overs.
The innings began strongly for the Green Shirts, with Akmal and Sharjeel Khan forging an opening stand of 65 runs before Kieron Pollard dismissed Khan in the seventh over.
Sharjeel contributed 21 runs from 14 balls, which included two boundaries and a six.
Akmal then dominated a 73-run partnership for the second wicket with Sohaib Maqsood, who scored 17 runs off 13 deliveries before being caught out by Dave Mohammed in the 14th over.
Subsequently, the dynamic wicketkeeper shared a 29-run partnership for the third wicket alongside captain Mohammad Hafeez, reaching his century during this phase.
Dwayne Bravo eventually dismissed Akmal in the 17th over.
Akmal’s impressive innings saw him amass 113 runs off 62 balls, featuring 13 fours and five sixes, making him the top scorer for Pakistan Champions.
Following his departure, the scoring rate slowed down, with Hafeez and Asif Ali adding 22 runs from 17 balls. Hafeez was bowled out by Ashley Nurse on the first ball of the final over.
Hafeez scored 23 runs from 18 deliveries, hitting two boundaries, while Asif Ali remained not out with 10 runs from 10 balls.
For West Indies Champions, Pollard, Mohammed, Bravo, and Nurse each claimed one wicket.
