PDA and PFA Collaborate to Support Dairy Industry

The Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) and the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) have reached an agreement to offer assistance to licensed industrial dairy facilities in their operations and adherence to regulations. The accord was formalized on Monday.

This agreement was the result of discussions held between representatives from the PDA and Muhammad Asim Javaid, the Director General of the Punjab Food Authority. The primary objective of the meeting was to deliberate on potential reforms within the dairy sector and to improve the existing regulatory framework.

The discussions highlighted the importance of collaborative consultations and proactive planning to improve the quality of milk, update regulatory benchmarks, and simplify the procedures for obtaining licenses. Both entities acknowledged the need to assist licensed dairy units in maintaining compliance.

The DG PFA mentioned that the Authority is actively implementing measures to enhance the nutritional content and labelling standards of flavored milk, aiming to position it as a healthier alternative to fizzy drinks. He emphasized that transparent ingredient labeling is crucial for increasing consumer knowledge and building confidence.

He also noted that efforts to supply nutritious milk and conduct public awareness initiatives will be expanded throughout Punjab, with the goal of supporting the health of children. The quality of milk at dairy collection points is already being closely monitored.

Following instructions from the Chief Minister of Punjab, DG Asim Javaid reiterated that safeguarding public health is the PFA’s main focus. He further stated that the Authority is dedicated not only to ensuring food safety but also to fostering the sustainable advancement of the food sector.
