Arsenal to Clash with AC Milan on Wednesday
SINGAPORE: Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has expressed his eagerness for further acquisitions in the transfer window, suggesting that additional players may join their preseason tour in Asia, according to international reports on Monday.
Arsenal arrived in Singapore on Sunday for exhibition games against AC Milan and Newcastle United, subsequent to a visit to Hong Kong, where they are scheduled to play Tottenham Hotspur on July 31.
Arteta’s summer additions include Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, all of whom are part of the 30-man traveling team. Noni Madueke, a £52 million ($70m) acquisition, has been granted leave following his stint with Chelsea at the Club World Cup.
Reports indicate that discussions regarding Viktor Gyokeres with Sporting CP are ongoing, with both clubs purportedly agreeing to an initial fee of approximately €63m. However, further discussions are necessary to finalize the details of around €10m in performance-based incentives.
When questioned about Gyokeres, Arteta declined to discuss any player not currently a member of the Arsenal team. He emphasized the necessity of improving the team’s depth and overall quality.
“I am unable to provide commentary on any player who is not yet part of our group. Should we have something tangible to offer to any player, we will proceed accordingly,” Arteta stated.
“There is still ample time remaining in the window, and we are still seeking to address our numerical deficiencies and enhance the depth and quality of the squad. We are continually assessing the market.
“Until such time, our focus remains on the players we currently have, and I am highly satisfied with what I have observed in the past 10-15 days.”
Addressing the new acquisitions, Arteta further commented that new faces inject excitement and energy. They firmly believe in their ability to achieve success, and we are actively working with them.
“It’s akin to revitalizing the environment. Introducing new individuals brings fresh enthusiasm and vitality. We have also secured the services of highly significant players. I believe everyone recognizes that we must elevate ourselves to a higher level, and that is what we are striving for,” Arteta remarked.
“They possess unwavering belief [in their ability to win]. Fortunately, I do not need to persuade them. They are aware of their capabilities and how close we have been.
“Ultimately, it is those subtle nuances that enable you to take the next step, which is our collective objective. It simply requires consistent effort and an awareness of their current position.”
Arsenal postponed their initial training session in Singapore due to substantial rainstorms in the area. They are scheduled to play Milan on Wednesday.
