Martin Impresses with Fifth-Place Finish in Czech MotoGP Practice After Injury Layoff

MotoGP World Champion Jorge Martin expressed his exhilaration after a noteworthy return to the track at the Czech Republic Grand Prix on Friday. This comeback follows a period where he was absent for 10 out of the season’s initial 11 races due to sustained injuries.

Martin’s season was initially disrupted by a pre-season accident, which resulted in injuries to his wrist and ankle. Consequently, he was unable to participate in the first three events of the year.

His unfortunate streak continued in Qatar when another crash during his first race back led to a collapsed lung and bruised ribs.

Despite these challenges, Martin demonstrated resilience with an impressive return at Brno, securing fifth place in Friday’s practice session for the Czech MotoGP.

“I greatly missed this sensation. My focus is unwavering. The day presented considerable challenges with the constantly changing track conditions. Maintaining focus was crucial,” Martin stated.

“The available dry path was limited in certain turns, impacting consistency. After being sidelined for several months, I certainly felt the absence of that consistent rhythm.”

The 2024 MotoGP World Champion characterized the top-five result as deeply moving, highlighting that it signified his re-entry into competitive racing.

“Achieving a top-five finish felt incredibly emotional, not just because of the placement, but because it signifies my return. I performed exceptionally well today, and I am truly pleased,” he added.

Friday’s session also represented Martin’s inaugural experience piloting the Aprilia in wet conditions. Last season, he secured his first MotoGP title while competing with Pramac Racing before transitioning to Aprilia.

Simultaneously, Marc Marquez, a six-time MotoGP champion, currently dominates the riders’ championship standings with 344 points, trailed by his younger brother, Alex Marquez, who holds second place with 261 points.
