Dawson Replaces Bashir in England Squad for Fourth Test
Liam Dawson has been named by England as the replacement for off-spinner Shoaib Bashir for the fourth Test against India, which is scheduled to commence on July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester.
This decision follows Bashir’s injury; he sustained a fracture to his left hand while fielding during the third Test at Lord’s.
Despite the 21-year-old returning to the field to secure the final wicket and complete a victory for England, he has been ruled out for the remainder of the series due to the injury.
The selectors have brought in 35-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner Liam Dawson as his replacement. Dawson debuted in Test cricket against India in 2016 and has participated in three Tests, taking seven wickets.
His selection is recognition of his excellent form in the ongoing County Championship, where he has claimed 21 wickets in nine matches for Hampshire.
England Men’s National Selector Luke Wright commented on Dawson’s inclusion, stating that he is deserving of the call-up as he has consistently delivered strong performances for Hampshire in the County Championship.
Currently, England are leading the five-match ICC World Test Championship series 2-1 after their recent victory at Lord’s.
England squad for fourth Test: Ben Stokes (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes.
