Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing

Representing Pakistan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar engaged with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a statement shared on X, FM Dar expressed his delight from his meeting with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, while relaying greetings from the leadership, government, and people of Pakistan.

He further stated that as steadfast allies and strategic partners in all conditions, both countries remain dedicated to reinforcing their enduring friendship and advancing shared objectives in the region.

This significant interaction occurred during the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) gathering in Beijing, which included representatives from Pakistan, China, Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The CFM serves as the third most important platform within the SCO framework, concentrating on matters related to international relations, foreign policy, and security strategies.

The council is also responsible for endorsing documents, such as declarations and statements, to be presented for consideration by the Council of Heads of State (CHS), along with decisions for adoption by the CHS.

President Xi, in his welcome address to the delegation leaders, highlighted the importance of regional collaboration under the SCO, an entity encompassing the Eurasian landmass and a substantial portion of the global population.

In addition to his dialogue with President Xi, FM Dar also held discussions with Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Minister Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovic. Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to the longstanding bilateral relationship and to strengthening cooperation across all mutually beneficial areas.

Furthermore, Dar engaged with his Kazakh counterpart, Murat Nurtleu, where both parties reiterated their commitment to strengthening Pakistan-Kazakhstan bilateral relations and expanding collaboration within regional and multilateral forums.

The Foreign Minister of Pakistan also engaged with the foreign ministers of Iran, Uzbekistan, and Belarus, during the SCO CFM.

Dar commented that it is always valuable to exchange views to improve regional understanding and cooperation during difficult times.
