Hayley Matthews Crowned ICC Women’s Player of the Month
DUBAI: West Indies’ Hayley Matthews was declared the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2025 on Monday, adding yet another significant achievement to her already impressive career.
Matthews surpassed fellow nominees Tazmin Brits from South Africa and her West Indies colleague Afy Fletcher to secure the title.
This is Matthews’ fourth time receiving the ICC Player of the Month award, putting her level with Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner for the most wins by a female cricketer. She previously won in November 2021, October 2023, and April 2024.
The all-rounder earned the award after a remarkable performance in the T20I series against South Africa, where she was named Player of the Series for leading her team to a 2-1 victory on their home ground.
Matthews amassed 147 runs in the three-match T20I series against South Africa, boasting a strike rate of 120.49 and an average of 73.50. She also contributed with the ball, claiming two wickets with her off-spin deliveries.
In a statement to ICC Digital, Matthews conveyed her gratitude for receiving the Player of the Month award once more and expressed her delight in contributing to the team’s triumph in the series against South Africa.
“It’s a privilege to be named Player of the Month again. I’m delighted with my recent form, but more importantly, it’s been wonderful to assist the team’s success, particularly in a closely contested T20I series against South Africa,” Matthews stated.
“While recognition is appreciated, my main focus is on the future. There is still much more I aim to accomplish, both individually and with the team. We are progressing positively, and I am excited about our potential going forward,” she concluded.
