Hurricanes Bolster Squad with Mir, Rajapaksa, and Allen
The Hobart Hurricanes have formally announced the acquisition of three international players, including Pakistani leg-spinner Usama Mir, for the ongoing Global Super League (GSL) 2025.
The franchise publicly shared this information across its various social media channels, confirming the addition of Usama Mir, Sri Lankan batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and West Indian all-rounder Fabian Allen.
The announcement included the statement: “Our GSL squad is further strengthened by the arrival of talented international players to join the ‘Cane Train’.”
Previously, the Hobart Hurricanes, led by Ben McDermott, featured two Pakistani players: Mohammad Nawaz, a spinner, and Sahibzada Farhan, a wicketkeeper-batter.
However, their involvement in the competition is uncertain as they are currently participating in a national training camp held at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi.
This camp represents part of Pakistan’s preparations ahead of their scheduled three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which is set to commence on July 20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
The franchise has yet to release an official comment concerning their availability or possible alternatives if national commitments prevent their participation.
The 29-year-old is set to make his debut in the GSL, bringing with him a significant amount of experience in franchise cricket.
He has participated in several leagues, notably the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Big Bash League (BBL), The Hundred, Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The leg-spinner has competed in 152 T20 games, securing 171 wickets with an economy rate of 7.75. He has also represented Pakistan in five T20Is, where he has taken five wickets.
The 2025 edition of the Global Super League commenced on Thursday, with Dubai Capitals defeating Central Districts by 22 runs.
Concurrently, the reigning champions, Rangpur Riders, began their title defense with a close eight-run victory against Guyana Amazon Warriors.
