Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal emphasized that the safe disposal of hospital waste is essential to preventing disease and safeguarding public health. During a launch event organized by the Indus Hospital network, he unveiled yellow disposal vehicles dedicated to collecting infectious medical waste across 15 districts, including Islamabad.

“Prevention is better than cure,” he stated, highlighting how improperly managed hospital waste can fuel disease outbreaks. Supported by international partners, this initiative equips district health teams with specialized vehicles to securely collect and transport hazardous materials for safe treatment.

Mustafa Kamal noted that the disposal of contaminated waste and unsafe water contributes significantly to disease burdens. He reiterated that protecting citizens through proactive measures remains the government’s top priority.

Dr. Abdul Bari Khan from the Indus Hospital network emphasized that enhancing healthcare extends beyond building infrastructure; it requires sustainable systems for infection control and environmental hygiene. These waste disposal vehicles represent a foundational step toward reducing disease risks and fostering safer communities.

Looking ahead, the plan aims to replicate this model nationwide, expanding safe medical waste management practices and reinforcing Pakistan’s public health safeguards.
