In a heart-wrenching incident on January 30, 2025, Asra Hussain Raza, a 26-year-old Pakistani woman, was among the 67 victims of a tragic mid-air collision near Washington, D.C. The collision involved American Airlines Flight 5342 and a U.S. military Black Hawk helicopter.

Asra had been traveling for work-related matters and was en route back to Washington, D.C. Before the accident, she sent a text message to her husband, Hamaad Raza, stating that she would be landing in about 20 minutes. Tragically, this was her final communication.

The collision resulted in the loss of all 60 passengers and four crew members aboard the American Airlines flight, as well as the three military personnel on the Black Hawk helicopter. The wreckage of the passenger plane was recovered in three parts from the shallow waters of the Potomac River.
