Humaira Asghar’s Death: Police Suggest Body Could Be Months Old
KARACHI: In a recent development concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of actress Humaira Asghar, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Asad Raza of Sindh Police has indicated that the model’s remains may be approximately six months old.
DIG Raza stated, “The expiration dates on food and beverage items discovered in the apartment are marked for 2024. Furthermore, the most recent messages retrieved from the actor’s phone also date back to October 2024.”
Asghar’s body was discovered on Tuesday in her apartment, located in Defence Phase 6’s Ittehad Commercial area, where she had resided alone for seven years. The discovery occurred when a court-appointed bailiff arrived to enforce an eviction order related to a case filed by the apartment’s owner due to outstanding rent.
Earlier, police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed mentioned that the actor’s cause of death is still undetermined, as her body, found in her apartment, exhibited a significant degree of decomposition.
The police surgeon emphasized that while an initial post-mortem examination was performed, it is too early to determine the cause of death, given the body’s advanced state of decomposition, which prevents identification of the cause of death at this point.
She further mentioned that DNA and chemical samples have been taken, and the results will provide more clarity upon examination.
DIG South further elaborated that the final message on the actor’s phone was from an online taxi service, and the apartment’s electricity had been disconnected for an extended period.
Raza added, “The actress’s last communication with the apartment owner also occurred in 2024.”
The police official noted that they are awaiting the post-mortem report for further investigation, which is expected to take a few days. The body has been transferred to the morgue following legal procedures, and the actor’s family is expected to receive it soon.
The DIG’s statements are somewhat consistent with stylist Danish Maqsood’s observations, who mentioned communicating that he sent Asghar a message on October 20, which remains unread, and her WhatsApp “last seen” status was October 7.
