Alcaraz and Anisimova Advance to Wimbledon Semifinals
Carlos Alcaraz showcased a commanding performance against Britain’s Cameron Norrie, securing a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 victory on Centre Court Tuesday to advance to the Wimbledon semi-final.
Alcaraz established dominance early, clinching the first set in just 28 minutes with an array of impressive shots. Despite Norrie’s attempts to rally, the defending champion maintained control throughout the second and third sets, extending his winning streak to 23 matches.
The 22-year-old Alcaraz has now reached his eighth Grand Slam semi-final and will compete against American Taylor Fritz for a chance to win his third consecutive Wimbledon title.
Meanwhile, Amanda Anisimova overcame a resilient comeback attempt from Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to win 6-1, 7-6(9) and secure her spot in the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time.
After Anisimova, the 13th-seeded American, took a commanding lead of 6-1, 5-2, Pavlyuchenkova mounted an unexpected rally, forcing a tiebreak. However, Anisimova managed to clinch the victory, setting up a semi-final match against world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
Anisimova acknowledged the difficulty of the match but expressed her excitement at reaching the Wimbledon semi-final for the first time in her career.
Anisimova’s Post-Match Thoughts
“Today’s match was a real fight. I had a lead in the second set, but she elevated her game,” Anisimova stated.
“I persevered, and the tiebreak was incredibly tense, but I’m thrilled to have won. It’s incredibly special to be in the semi-final for the first time.
“This year has been remarkable for me, filled with many high points. I’m savoring every moment, and even during challenging times like today, I remind myself to appreciate the present.”
