Sabalenka Set to Clash with Anisimova for Finals Berth

LONDON: After a hard-fought comeback, Aryna Sabalenka overcame Laura Siegemund in their Wimbledon quarter-final match on Centre Court, securing her spot in the semi-finals.

The Belarusian tennis star showed resilience after dropping the first set, eventually clinching a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

Siegemund, the 37-year-old German player, began the match strongly, taking the first set with an impressive display.

However, the German’s precision seemed to diminish slightly in the second set, which allowed Sabalenka, the top-ranked player, to level the score.

Siegemund leveraged her experience to vary her play and adhere to her strategy during crucial moments.

Despite the German’s efforts to extend the match, Sabalenka secured the win with a commanding overhead shot, celebrating with a shout of triumph.

Sabalenka acknowledged her opponent’s performance after the match, recognizing the challenge she posed and lauding her overall tournament.

“I need to recover… She really pushed me. After that first set, I was looking at my team thinking it might be time to book our tickets home,” Sabalenka admitted.

“She played a brilliant tournament, an amazing match, and the atmosphere was incredible.”

Sabalenka is now scheduled to compete against Amanda Anisimova for a chance to play in the final on Saturday.
