Shane McDermott Joins National Team as New Fielding Coach
LAHORE: In preparation for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which begins on July 20 at the Shere-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed adjustments to the team management on Tuesday.
Shane McDermott has been selected as the national team’s new fielding coach, succeeding Mohammad Masroor. Masroor’s departure from the PCB occurred after the Skills Development Camp concluded on July 4.
Masroor verified his exit with a heartfelt social media message, thanking the players, staff, and supporters.
He stated, “Thank you to the players who trusted, the staff who supported, and the fans who believed. Every catch and every victory was made possible by a group of men who believed.”
“Although my time with the team is over, I will always be a part of Pakistan cricket’s history. Pakistan, thank you. I have no regrets, only pride and best wishes for the future.”
McDermott has extensive international coaching experience, having previously worked with Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
In another development, Grant Luden, a seasoned trainer, has replaced Imran Ullah as the PCB’s strength and conditioning coach.
The board has also named a 15-member squad for the T20I series, with all-rounder Salman Ali Agha remaining as captain. Shadab Khan, the vice-captain, and Haris Rauf, a fast bowler, have been ruled out due to injuries.
Salman Mirza, a young pacer who shone for the Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 9, has received his first national team call-up.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to land in Bangladesh on July 16. The T20I series begins on July 20, with the second and third games planned for July 22 and 24, respectively.
Pakistan won a 3-0 whitewash at home the last time the two teams met in May.
