Senator Sherry Rehman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called on the government to invest in solar energy as a solution to Pakistan’s growing energy crisis. Speaking at a Solar Energy Conference, Rehman highlighted the transformative potential of solar energy to address both the energy shortage and environmental challenges facing the country.

Rehman emphasized that the time has come for Pakistan to embrace a solar energy revolution. She stated that with significant investment in solar energy, the government could overcome the energy crisis and move toward a more sustainable and economically viable future. She further stressed the need for strong policy support to facilitate this transition.

According to Rehman, solar energy has the power to reduce Pakistan’s reliance on traditional energy sources and help the nation become self-sufficient in its energy supply. She pointed out that the growing interest in solar energy among the public is a direct response to the high cost of electricity, with many citizens seeking affordable and reliable alternatives.

The senator also addressed the global decline in the cost of solar panels, particularly highlighting the 90% reduction in the price of Chinese solar panels, which have made solar energy a more affordable option for Pakistani consumers. She noted that this price drop has provided a much-needed opportunity for Pakistan to capitalize on renewable energy.

Sherry Rehman also highlighted the environmental benefits of solar energy, stating that its widespread adoption could significantly reduce Pakistan’s environmental pollution. This, in turn, aligns with the nation’s broader environmental goals.

With Pakistan targeting 60% renewable energy by 2030, Rehman believes that the solar revolution will play a crucial role in achieving this goal. She emphasized that solar energy is a key factor in transitioning Pakistan toward renewable energy on the global stage.
