Sri Lanka Announces Squad for T20I Series Against Bangladesh
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has revealed its 17-member team for the forthcoming three-match T20 International series against Bangladesh, commencing on July 10 in Pallekele.
Charith Asalanka will be at the helm as captain. Dasun Shanaka, a former captain, is back in the national setup after almost a year, his last T20I appearance being in July 2024. Chamika Karunaratne, the all-rounder, has also earned a recall.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, however, has been omitted from the squad following a disappointing performance in New Zealand, where he scored only 14 runs in two T20Is.
The team also features prominent players like Pathum Nissanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, and Maheesh Theekshana. Eshan Malinga, who made an impression in the IPL, has secured a place alongside Kamindu Mendis.
Malinga is anticipated to spearhead the pace attack with Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana, offering Sri Lanka a robust fast-bowling department for the series.
Sri Lanka is slated to face Bangladesh in three T20Is scheduled for July 10, 13, and 16, to be played in Pallekele, Dambulla, and Colombo, respectively.
Notably, Sri Lanka clinched the two-match Test series against Bangladesh with a 1-0 victory. The ongoing three-match ODI series is currently tied at 1-1.
The decisive third and final ODI is set to take place on Tuesday at the Pallekele Stadium.
