Ronaldo Mourns Teammate Diogo Jota Following Tragic Car Accident

Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the Portugal national football team, has expressed his deep sorrow and extended his condolences to the family of his teammate, Diogo Jota, after Jota’s untimely death in a car accident on Thursday.

Jota, the Liverpool and Portugal forward, tragically died at the age of 28 in a fiery car crash that occurred near Zamora, in northwestern Spain.

Reports from international media indicate that his younger brother, Andre Silva, aged 25, also perished in the devastating incident.

Ronaldo conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to Jota’s family in a message shared on X (formerly Twitter).

“This is incomprehensible. We were just together with the National Team, and you had just celebrated your wedding. To your family, your wife, and your children, I offer my deepest condolences and wish them strength during this difficult time,” Ronaldo stated.

“I know you will forever be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. You will be greatly missed,” he added.

Jota, a prominent member of Portugal’s national team, also played for Premier League club Liverpool. He joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 and made 182 appearances for the team, scoring 65 goals across various competitions.

He played a crucial role in the club’s recent achievements, which included their Premier League title in 2024–25, the FA Cup victory in 2022, and League Cup wins in 2022 and 2024.

On the international stage, Jota represented Portugal in 49 matches.

He participated in the UEFA Euro tournaments in 2020 and 2024, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and was instrumental in Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victories in 2019 and 2025.

Tragically, just ten days prior to the accident, Jota had married his longtime partner, Rute Cardoso. The couple leaves behind three young children.
