Consumer Price Index Shows Inflation at 3.2% in June 2025

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) indicates that the Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation rate reached 3.2 percent year-on-year in June 2025. This is compared to 3.5 percent in the prior month and 12.6 percent in June 2024.

Examining month-on-month figures, a 0.2 percent increase was observed for June 2025, contrasting with a 0.2 percent decrease in May 2025 and a 0.5 percent increase in June 2024.

Urban and Rural CPI Inflation

Urban CPI inflation saw a decrease to 3 percent year-on-year in June 2025, down from 3.5 percent in the previous month and 14.9 percent in June 2024. The month-on-month figure remained steady at 0.1 percent for June 2025, consistent with the prior month, but lower than the 0.6 percent recorded in June 2024.

In contrast, rural CPI inflation rose by 3.6 percent year-on-year in June 2025, compared to a 3.4 percent increase in May 2025 and 9.3 percent in June 2024. On a month-on-month basis, it showed a 0.5 percent increase in June 2025, a shift from the 0.5 percent decrease in the previous month, and higher than the 0.3 percent increase in June 2024.

Sensitive and Wholesale Price Indices

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI)-based inflation decreased by 1.9 percent year-on-year in June 2025, an improvement from the 0.6 percent decrease in May 2025, and significantly lower than the 16.6 percent increase in June 2024. The month-on-month figure remained unchanged in June 2025, in contrast to a 1 percent decrease a month earlier and a 1.3 percent increase in June 2024.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation increased by 0.6 percent year-on-year in June 2025, marginally up from the 0.4 percent increase in the prior month, but significantly lower than the 10.6 percent in June 2024. Month-on-month, it rose to 0.6 percent in June 2025, compared to no change in the previous month and a 0.4 percent increase in June 2024.

Non-Food Non-Energy Inflation

Non-food non-energy urban inflation decreased to 6.9 percent year-on-year in June 2025, compared to 7.3 percent the previous month and 12.2 percent in June 2024. Month-on-month, it rose by 0.2 percent in June 2025, compared to a 0.4 percent increase in the previous month and 0.6 percent in June 2024.

Non-food non-energy rural inflation decreased to 8.6 percent year-on-year in June 2025, down from 8.8 percent in May 2025 and 17 percent in June 2024. Month-on-month, it increased by 0.7 percent in June 2025, compared to a 0.4 percent increase in the previous month and 0.9 percent in June 2024.

Core Inflation (Trimmed)

Core inflation (trimmed), measured by the 20 percent weighted trimmed mean urban, decreased to 4.7 percent year-on-year in June 2025, from 4.9 percent in the prior month and 10.3 percent in June 2024. Month-on-month, it rose by 0.3 percent in June 2025, compared to a 0.1 percent increase in the previous month and 0.6 percent in June 2024.

Measured by the 20 percent weighted trimmed mean rural, increased by 5.2 percent year-on-year in June 2025, up from 4.7 percent in the previous month and 11 percent in June 2024. Month-on-month, it increased by 0.5 percent in June 2025, compared to a 0.2 percent decrease in the previous month and 0.5 percent in June 2024.

National and Urban Consumer Price Indices

The National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) for June 2025 saw a 0.23 percent increase over May 2025, and a 3.23 percent increase compared to June of the previous year.

The Urban Consumer Price Index for June 2025 rose by 0.08 percent over May 2025, and 3 percent over June of the prior year.
