The Power Division has filed a petition with NEPRA, seeking a Rs 1.15 per unit reduction in electricity tariffs for all consumers except lifeline households. NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on July 1 to finalize the request, with possible implementation later in July.
The proposed adjustments aim to ease the burden on domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and bulk users. For protected domestic consumers using up to 100 units, the rate would drop by nearly 10%, from Rs 11.69 to Rs 10.54 per unit. Users in the 101-200 unit bracket would see an 8% cut, from Rs 14.16 to Rs 13.01. Higher-use consumers would receive a reduction of around 5%. 📉
This move aligns with budget revisions that lower federal power subsidies for FY 2025-26 by about 10%, favoring financial sustainability in the energy sector while aiming to shield consumers from higher prices.
