Khaleel Ahmed to Represent Essex for Two Months

LONDON: Essex, the reigning English county champions, have successfully enlisted the services of Indian left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed for the remaining portion of the domestic season. This includes his participation in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

This agreement marks Khaleel’s inaugural venture into county cricket. The left-arm bowler is slated to be available for a two-month duration, lasting until late September.

During this period, he is anticipated to participate in six first-class matches and eight List A games. Should Essex advance to the One-Day Cup final, his potential appearances could increase to a maximum of ten.

Khaleel’s international experience includes representing India in 11 ODIs, where he secured 15 wickets at an average of 31.00. In first-class cricket, he has featured in 20 matches, claiming 56 wickets at an average of 27.67.

He also participated as a member of the India A squad during their tour of England in June, where they competed against the England Lions. Expressing his enthusiasm, Khaleel remarked,

“I am aware of the Club’s distinguished legacy, and I am eager to contribute. I intend to make an immediate impact.”

“I anticipate the opportunity to perform at Chelmsford, engage with Essex’s dedicated members and supporters, and deliver outstanding displays worthy of their support.”

Essex’s Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood, expressed his approval of Khaleel’s inclusion, highlighting the significance of Khaleel’s left-arm seam bowling.

“We were impressed by his displays for India A and are confident in his ability to enhance our already formidable seam attack.

“His left-arm seam bowling provides a unique dimension and will introduce fresh dynamism to the squad in both the One-Day Cup and the County Championship,” stated Silverwood.

Essex is currently positioned eighth in Division One of the County Championship, having secured only one victory in eight matches thus far.

Khaleel joins the expanding cohort of Indian cricketers actively participating in the county circuit this season.

Other notable participants include Ishan Kishan (Nottinghamshire), Tilak Varma (Hampshire), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Yorkshire) and Yuzvendra Chahal (Northamptonshire).
