Arshad Nadeem Secures Fourth Position in World Javelin Rankings
The World Athletics Federation recently unveiled its updated global rankings for javelin throwers, with Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, an Olympic gold medalist, achieving the fourth spot.
According to the recent report, Arshad has accumulated 1370 points, which places him among the top athletes globally, despite his reduced participation in ranking competitions this season.
Arshad rose to global recognition following his gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics. This year, he has participated in only one event: the Asian Athletics Championships, where he also secured a gold medal.
His absence from multiple ranking tournaments has had an impact on his standing, hindering a further advancement. Nevertheless, the upcoming months may present chances for improvement.
Prior to the World Athletics Championships in September, Arshad is expected to compete in two or three international events. Strong performances in these competitions could significantly enhance his ranking.
Meanwhile, India’s Neeraj Chopra has taken the lead in the men’s javelin rankings, surpassing Anderson Peters of Grenada.
Chopra currently tops the list with 1445 points, followed by Peters with 1431, and Germany’s Julian Weber with 1407.
Other prominent athletes in the top six include Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic, ranked fifth with 1346 points, and Julius Yego of Kenya in sixth place with 1314 points.
In the women’s rankings, Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi holds the first position with 1405 points, followed by Serbia’s Adriana Vilagos with 1351.
South Africa’s Jo-Ane Du Plessis is third with 1318 points, while Greece’s Elina Tzengko is ranked fourth with 1309 points.
Last year, Nadeem gained worldwide recognition when he broke the Olympic javelin record with an impressive throw of 92.97 meters at the Paris Olympics, securing the gold medal.
Continuing his success, Arshad achieved a similar result at the Asian Athletics Championship last month, winning the gold medal with an 86.40-meter throw.
He also became the first Pakistani in over half a century to claim a gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships. This marked Pakistan’s first gold since 1973, when Allah Dada and Muhammad Younis won in javelin throw and 800 meters, respectively, at the event in the Philippines.
