Jayden Seales Sanctioned for Conduct Breach

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: West Indies bowler Jayden Seales has been penalized with a 15% fine of his match earnings and received a demerit point for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the first day of the Test match against Australia at Kensington Oval.

The instance took place in the 55th over of Australia’s initial innings. Following the dismissal of Australian skipper Pat Cummins, Seales made a gesture directed toward the dressing room.

The gesture was considered a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC regulations governing player and support personnel behavior. This article addresses actions or language that could disparage or incite an aggressive response from a batter upon their dismissal during an international contest.

At the close of play, Seales minimized the importance of the event, stating it “wasn’t really significant and stemmed from a moment of frustration.”

Seales’ Perspective

“Pat struck a couple of solid shots against my bowling. I merely indicated the direction of the dressing room without malicious intent.”

This marks Seales’ second infraction in a two-year span, escalating his demerit point total to two.

Despite this disciplinary issue, Seales remained a critical component in the game. On day two, he secured the wicket of Josh Inglis for 12—his sixth in the Test—as the West Indies presented a strong challenge against the World Test Championship finalists.

Earlier, Shai Hope (48) and captain Roston Chase (44) forged a significant 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket, providing the West Indies with a narrow 10-run lead in the first innings.

The Australian batting lineup struggled, concluding the day at 92/4, leading by 82 runs. Travis Head (13*) and Beau Webster (19*) were at the crease when play concluded and will resume on the third day with the match hanging in the balance.
