Twins Secure Victory Over Mariners with Ryan’s Stellar Pitching

MINNEAPOLIS: At Target Field on Wednesday, Joe Ryan pitched six superb scoreless innings as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-0.

Ryan was in command, giving up only three hits and no walks, while recording eight strikeouts over 93 pitches, 61 of which were strikes. The Twins, who had lost 11 of their previous 13 games, were in desperate need of the win.

Kody Clemens increased the lead in the seventh inning with a solo home run, his second in as many games and ninth RBI of the season. The ball traveled 389 feet to center field.

Willi Castro drove in Byron Buxton with a two-out RBI single in the sixth inning to start the scoring. Buxton had previously singled and advanced to second on a groundout.

Despite a strong performance, George Kirby, the Mariners’ starter, took the loss after allowing one run on three hits in six innings. He recorded three strikeouts and issued one walk.

Seattle’s offense struggled, managing only three singles during the entire game. Cal Raleigh, the MLB home run leader, went 0-for-four with three strikeouts.

Minnesota’s bullpen maintained Ryan’s strong performance with three perfect innings. Louis Varland, Griffin Jax, and closer Jhoan Duran combined to maintain the shutout. With a flawless ninth inning that included one strikeout, Duran earned his 11th save of the year.

It was the Twins’ first shutout since May 17 against Milwaukee. They had given up at least six runs in each of their previous five games, making Wednesday’s result a much-needed confidence boost for the pitching staff.

Seattle’s Emerson Hancock is scheduled to face Minnesota’s Simeon Woods Richardson in the series finale on Thursday.
