South Africa Announces Squad for T20I Tri-Series
Cricket South Africa (CSA) revealed its squad on Thursday for the upcoming T20I tri-nation series. Zimbabwe and New Zealand will join South Africa in the competition next month.
Rassie van der Dussen will lead the team, stepping in for regular captain Aiden Markram. Several other experienced players will sit out to manage their workload.
The tri-series is scheduled to begin on July 14 in Harare, with the final match taking place on July 26.
New Faces and Returning Players
The squad includes some new players, such as Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who had a great run in this year’s SA20. His performance earned him his first international call-up.
Corbin Bosch is also expected to make his T20I debut. He has previously played for South Africa in both ODIs and Tests.
Rubin Hermann, a wicketkeeper-batter who made a strong impression in the SA20, and Senuran Muthusamy, an all-rounder who has already played in Tests and ODIs, are the other uncapped players selected for the squad.
Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee, both pacers, are returning after recovering from injuries. They are currently participating in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States.
Dewald Brevis is also set to return to international cricket after being absent for nearly two years.
This series will be the first T20I series for South Africa under Shukri Conrad, the new head coach for all formats.
Coach’s Comments
“This T20I tri-series marks the beginning of our preparations for the T20 World Cup next year,” Conrad stated. “With several senior players being rested for workload management, it provides an opportunity for new players to step up and demonstrate their abilities, potentially securing their spot for the World Cup selection.”
He added, “Lhuan-dre and Rubin have earned their spots due to their exceptional domestic performances in the SA20. We are eager to see how they adapt to the challenges of international cricket. We are aware of Corbin’s capabilities at this level and are interested in observing how his Test and ODI skills translate to the T20I format.”
