Karachi Braces for First Monsoon Spell
Karachi is preparing for the arrival of its initial monsoon rains, anticipated to commence tomorrow, Friday. The weather forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicates periods of rain, thunderstorms, and blustery conditions across the city through Sunday.
The department has indicated that certain areas might be subjected to rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity.
The PMD’s latest advisory mentions that Karachi is predicted to experience warm and humid conditions today, Thursday, with partly cloudy skies expected throughout the day. The high temperature is projected to range from 35°C to 37°C.
According to weather authorities, a westerly weather disturbance has shifted over the country’s western regions. This weather pattern is expected to bring thunderstorms, powerful winds, and rainfall to most parts of Sindh, starting today and lasting until June 29.
Some locations are expected to be affected by moderate to substantial rainfall.
Districts such as Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, and Thatta are predicted to get rain and thunderstorms during this time. Sujawal, Dadu, Sukkur, Larkana, and Khairpur are anticipated to experience similar conditions.
Rainfall is also expected in Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, and Sanghar, while Jamshoro, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Jacobabad, Ghotki, and Kashmore might also encounter rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunder.
The Met Office has cautioned that considerable rainfall, high winds, and lightning could potentially cause disruption. There is a possibility of urban flooding and standing water in low-lying areas. Structures in poor condition, utility poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels may also face potential harm.
Farmers have been advised to adjust their plans according to the weather outlook, and authorities are encouraged to implement measures to handle any possible emergencies promptly.
