Karachi Weather Forecast: Chance of Rain and Monsoon Advisory
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated a likelihood of light showers or drizzle in Karachi today, potentially easing the prevailing humidity.
The next 24 hours are expected to bring humid conditions with partly cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is anticipated to fluctuate between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature this morning was 29.7°C.
Current humidity is at 75%, with a 10 km/h sea breeze offering slight respite from the muggy atmosphere.
This possible change follows recent light rain and drizzle, providing a temporary reduction in temperature after days of hot weather.
Monsoon Advisory
The Met Office has also released a warning regarding the start of widespread monsoon rains across the country from June 25, cautioning about possible flash floods, urban flooding, landslides, and other rain-related risks.
Moist air currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are entering upper and central Pakistan and are predicted to strengthen over the coming days, according to the weather department.
A strong westerly wave is expected to affect northern areas on June 25, intensifying by June 26, leading to significant rainfall across most regions.
Potential Impacts
- Heavy rainfall may cause flash floods in streams and nullahs, especially in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Dera Ghazi Khan’s hill torrents, northeast Punjab, and Kashmir between June 26 and July 1.
- Urban flooding is possible in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar during the same period, with similar conditions potentially affecting Hyderabad and Karachi between June 26 and June 28.
- Continuous rain increases the risk of landslides and potential road closures in vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
- Heavy rainfall, windstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily life and damage weak structures like Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
