The Government of Pakistan has officially launched the Apna Meter Apni Reading App, aiming to eliminate electricity overbilling and manual meter reading. This new digital initiative will enable electricity consumers across the country, excluding those in K-Electric’s region, to submit their meter readings through a user-friendly mobile application. The app empowers users by putting control in their hands and ensures more accurate billing, eliminating human error and corruption previously associated with traditional meter readers. With support for multiple regional languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, and Balochi, the app is designed for nationwide accessibility. Consumers will benefit from cost savings as the operational burden on distribution companies is reduced. A soft launch is planned, followed by a full rollout. A media campaign will raise awareness and guide users on how to use the app. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given a one-month deadline to finalize all technical details and ensure the app is fully functional and beneficial for the public. This marks a significant step toward transparency, affordability, and digital transformation in Pakistan’s power sector.
