Hughie Fury Withdraws from Fight Due to Injury

Hughie Fury, the British heavyweight boxer and cousin of Tyson Fury, has reportedly withdrawn from his scheduled match against Belgium’s Michael Pirotton. The fight was set for June 28 at the Connexin Liver Arena in Hull.

The contest was planned as the co-main event, preceding the anticipated showdown between Shakan Pitters and Brad Rea. However, reports indicate that Fury had to pull out due to a hand injury that worsened during his recent bout with Dan Garber.

Sources suggest that while Hughie was reluctant to withdraw, his team advised him against taking any risks with the injury.

This setback marks another challenge for Fury, who was previously inactive from 2021 to 2024 due to health concerns. The current injury, while not requiring surgery, may prolong his absence from the sport.

Previously, Fury’s two fights with Micheal Hunter were called off because of lasting effects from COVID-19, and allergies further delayed his return. Earlier in the year, Fury spoke about the frustrations of his extended time away from the ring.

Fury’s Reflections on His Absence

“Being out of the ring and unable to fight has been incredibly frustrating. I haven’t been idle; I’ve spent three years trying to get back in there,” Fury stated.

“Various issues kept me out, including allergies and COVID. I also discovered I have celiac disease, which meant certain foods were causing problems.

Every attempt to resume training was thwarted by something new. It wasn’t until I returned to the ring that I could overcome everything.”

Fury made his comeback after a 30-month hiatus last April, defeating Ukrainian Kostiantyn Dovbyschenko on points. He then stopped Patrick Korte within two rounds the following month and concluded the year with a victory over Christian Thun in September.

Beginning 2025 with a fifth TKO win against Garber, the fight with Pirotton was intended to be his second of the year.

Meanwhile, Pirotton (10-1) recently suffered a defeat to Polish boxer Piotr Lacz in a WBC Grand Prix match in April, which ended his undefeated streak.
