Pakistan Announces Snooker Squad for International Tournaments in Sri Lanka

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) has revealed its national team consisting of four players for two forthcoming international competitions: the Six-Red Ball Championship and the Asian Team Snooker Championship.

Both tournaments are set to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, between June 22 and June 28. The Pakistani team is scheduled to leave for Sri Lanka on June 21.

The selected players are experienced cueists Shahid Aftab, Mohammad Sajjad, Awaisullah, and Mohammad Asif.

Mohammad Sajjad, Awaisullah, and Mohammad Asif are slated to participate in both the Six-Red Ball Championship and the Asian Team Snooker Championship.

Shahid Aftab, however, will only compete in the team event.

The PBSA conveyed its confidence in the abilities of the players and expressed optimism that they will achieve success for the nation.

Notably, Awais Munir recently secured victory in the Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 2, 2024, prevailing over Hong Kong’s Nansen Wan.

Munir triumphed with a 6-3 score, with the match deadlocked at 2-2 before he claimed three successive frames to establish a dominant 5-2 advantage.

Although Nansen briefly recovered in the eighth frame, Munir displayed remarkable composure and precision in the ninth to secure the title. The final frame scores were: 0-65, 35-26, 27-36, 38-20, 0-65, 13-46, 8-60, 34-0, 27-40.
