Ushna and Meheq’s Stellar Doubles Performance Propels Pakistan Over Tajikistan
Pakistan rallied to secure a 2-1 victory against Tajikistan in their Group A encounter at the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Despite an initial setback in the opening singles match, Pakistan displayed resilience to clinch the overall win.
Amna Ali Qayum, competing in the first singles rubber, had to concede due to an injury in the decisive set against Tajikistan’s Anisa Yakhyaeva, despite holding an earlier lead. The match concluded with a score of 6-1, 5-7, 0-1 (retired), putting Tajikistan ahead 1-0.
Amna was in the lead at 5-3 in the second set after a 6-1 victory in the first when the injury occurred. Despite attempting to continue, she ultimately withdrew in the third set.
However, Ushna Suhail swiftly equalized the score with a convincing straight-sets triumph over Saiyora Rajabalieva, 6-3, 6-1, in the subsequent singles match.
In the crucial doubles rubber, Ushna Suhail joined forces with Meheq Khokhar to deliver a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory against the Tajikistani duo of Yakhyaeva and Sumaya Tukhtaeva, securing the 2-1 tie for Pakistan.
This positive result enhances Pakistan’s prospects of progressing further in the tournament, with their next match scheduled against Turkmenistan on Thursday.
