Joe Root Eyes Test Records in Upcoming Series Against India
England’s seasoned cricketer, Joe Root, stands on the cusp of achieving several milestones as he prepares for the forthcoming five-match Test series against India, commencing on June 20 at Headingley.
Having recently surpassed 13,000 runs during England’s Test match against Zimbabwe, Root is now within reach of overtaking two legends, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid, in the all-time Test run-scorers list.
Root will also be aiming to exceed Dravid’s batting average record among players who have participated in the India-England Test series.
To date, Root has featured in 153 Test matches for England, accumulating 13,006 runs at an average of 50.80, with 36 centuries and 65 half-centuries.
With a personal best of 262, Root currently holds the title of England’s highest run-scorer in Test cricket, securing the fifth position overall.
The 34-year-old requires only 373 additional runs to surpass Australian icon Ponting, who amassed 13,378 runs in 168 Tests at an average of 51.85, including 42 centuries.
Root, with his current tally of 13,006 runs in 153 Tests, needs 282 runs to overtake India’s Dravid and 283 runs to move ahead of South Africa’s Jacques Kallis.
Root’s consistent performance has cemented his status as England’s leading Test run-scorer and among the most prolific batters in the world.
He concluded the previous ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with 1,968 runs in 22 Tests, maintaining an average of 54.66, including seven centuries and seven half-centuries.
His highest score during this period, a remarkable 262 against Pakistan in Multan, remains a highlight of his impressive career.
Root has demonstrated exceptional performance against India, scoring 2,846 runs in 30 Tests at an average of 58.08, including 10 centuries and 11 fifties.
Besides climbing the all-time runs chart, Root is also poised to become the first batter to reach 6,000 runs in WTC history.
He currently leads the WTC run-scoring chart with 5,543 runs in 64 matches at an average of 51.80, including 18 centuries and 21 fifties across 117 innings.
The five-match Test series between England and India is scheduled to commence at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20. Subsequent matches will be held at Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval.
