Piastri Dominates F1 Standings with Multiple Victories

Oscar Piastri is on track to potentially become the sole Australian racer to secure six or more victories in a single Formula One season following the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. The ambitious 24-year-old is focused on clinching the championship title.

Previously, Jack Brabham and Alan Jones were the only world champions to achieve five wins in a single year. Their accomplishments came during seasons with significantly fewer races compared to the current record of 24.

Piastri currently holds a 10-point lead over his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris, in the championship race, having triumphed in five of the initial nine races. Moreover, he has consistently reached the podium in his last eight races.

Reflecting on matching the seasonal record held by 1980 champion Jones and the accomplished Brabham, Piastri acknowledged the significance of these statistics but expressed his desire to emulate their world championship titles.

“It’s a nice stat to have,” Piastri commented.

“I’d be happier with the stat of joining them as world champion,” he stated further.

He emphasized that his five victories in nine races are not sufficient given the capabilities of his car. He aims to secure more wins and ultimately achieve championship success.

“To have five wins in nine races is beyond what I expected really, even with a very competitive car,” he admitted.

“Whilst those stats are cool, that’s ultimately not why I’m here,” he clarified.

“I’m here to try and win even more races and fight for a championship. So I think there’s some cooler statistics to come hopefully.”
