Robertson of Liverpool Predicts Wirtz to Become a ‘Top Player’

Reports surfaced on Friday indicating that Premier League champions Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to acquire German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a sum of 136.3 million euros ($156.75 million).

The details suggest that Wirtz is poised to commit to a five-year deal, with the transfer fee structured to include an initial payment of 117.5 million euros, accompanied by an additional 18.8 million euros contingent on performance-related clauses.

Last season, the German midfielder showcased his abilities by scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 appearances for Leverkusen.

While Manchester City initially expressed interest in acquiring Wirtz, they reportedly withdrew due to the substantial financial commitment required for the deal. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich also displayed interest and were linked with a potential move.

Liverpool’s left-back, Andy Robertson, lauded Wirtz as an ‘exciting talent’ following the announcement of the signing. He mentioned that the German player posed significant challenges and created numerous issues for them during his time with Leverkusen.

Robertson further commented that Wirtz’s demonstrated skills were sufficient to convince him of his potential to become a future star in the sport.

Robertson’s Quote

“He performed exceptionally against us. He consistently caused problems, operating effectively in the half-space, making runs in behind, and demonstrating versatility,” Robertson stated.

“That was sufficient for me to recognize his potential to become a top-tier player. He was outstanding in the match against us while representing Germany.”

“Securing him would bring an exciting talent through the door. We already possess a wealth of exciting talent. He is a remarkably skilled player and will undoubtedly contribute positively to our team. Should he finalize the transfer, we are eager to play alongside him.”
