Federal Budget 2025-26 Presentation

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is currently unveiling the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. The coalition government aims to stimulate economic recovery, adhere to International Monetary Fund (IMF) guidelines, and offer some respite to taxpayers.

The budget, with an anticipated expenditure of Rs17.6 trillion, is being presented amidst global economic uncertainties heightened by new trade tariffs imposed by the United States.

Minister Aurangzeb will present the Finance Bill 2024 in the Senate concurrently, fulfilling the requirements outlined in Article 73 of the Constitution. This marks his second budget address before the National Assembly.

Prior to the budget announcement, the federal cabinet gave its approval to the proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year (2025-26).

Key Points:

The budget’s unveiling follows the government’s failure to meet its GDP growth target of 3.6% for the current fiscal year, with a reported growth rate of 2.7%, as detailed in the Economic Survey 2024-25.

During a press briefing on the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023-24, Minister Aurangzeb underscored a substantial 4.8% surge in industrial activity. This propelled the economy’s valuation to $411 billion for the first time and increased the per capita income to $1,824.
