England Clinch T20I Series Against West Indies
BRISTOL: England secured an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against the West Indies, showcasing a dominant performance powered by Jos Buttler and robust middle-order contributions from Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell, and Tom Banton.
Despite notable improvements in the West Indies’ batting display, particularly in the final overs, they ultimately fell short. England successfully chased down a target of 196/6, achieving victory with four wickets in hand and nine balls remaining.
Ben Duckett and Jos Buttler forged a strong beginning to the innings. Duckett aggressively targeted Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd, while Buttler focused on Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder during the PowerPlay, propelling England to 58/1 after six overs.
The dismissal of Duckett in the eighth over momentarily slowed the scoring rate. However, Buttler and Brook stabilized the chase, advancing the score to 87/2 by the innings’ midpoint.
West Indies’ bowler Gudakesh Motie exerted control with a frugal five-run over. However, Brook retaliated with an explosive 20-run over against Shepherd, which featured a six and a pair of boundaries.
Although Hosein and Roston Chase claimed the wickets of Buttler and Brook in quick succession, Bethell and Banton adopted an aggressive approach, striking sixes and reducing the required runs to 62 from the final 36 balls.
Banton’s powerful hitting, including three sixes off Alzarri Joseph in the latter stages, significantly advanced England’s progress. His rapid 26 runs from 10 balls established a solid base for the conclusion, with Brydon Carse securing the victory with a boundary in the 19th over.
Earlier in the match, the West Indies achieved a competitive total of 196/6, supported by significant scores from Shai Hope (49) and Johnson Charles (47).
Luke Wood made an early impact by dismissing Evin Lewis with the first ball. Although Hope and Charles cautiously rebuilt, the innings encountered a lull in the middle overs.
The closing overs featured a notable surge, underscored by an eventful Adil Rashid over where Holder and Shepherd hit five sixes. However, this effort proved insufficient to restrict England’s successful chase.
With this triumph, England’s series lead advances to 2-0, positioning them one victory away from achieving a clean sweep against the West Indies.
