Afghanistan to Likely Host Bangladesh in UAE for T20I Series
A three-match T20I series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh is anticipated to occur in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during October 2025, according to recent reports.
While the specific dates are still pending official confirmation, the series is tentatively scheduled to follow the Asia Cup in September and precede Bangladesh’s home series against the West Indies, which includes six white-ball matches commencing in the third week of October.
These T20Is will finalize the white-ball portion of what was initially conceived as a comprehensive series, encompassing two Test matches, three ODIs, and three T20Is.
Originally planned for Greater Noida, India, the entire series was deferred due to weather concerns and the Bangladesh team’s tight schedule.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh did compete in the ODI leg in November 2024, where Afghanistan secured a 2-1 series victory.
Both the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are reportedly still engaged in discussions to reschedule the postponed Test matches sometime in 2026.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is slated to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February and March 2026.
For Afghanistan, this upcoming series will fill a gap in their schedule between the Asia Cup and a complete tour of Zimbabwe towards the end of October, followed by a T20I series against the West Indies and New Zealand, all leading up to the World Cup.
Additionally, this series will represent the first T20I encounter between Afghanistan and Bangladesh since their match in the T20 World Cup in June 2024 in Kingstown. In that game, Afghanistan achieved a significant victory, enabling them to reach the semi-finals of a World Cup for the first time.
