Pakistan Sports Board Distributes Millions in Grants to National Federations

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has allocated approximately PKR 102 million in financial aid to 23 national sports federations and associations for the fiscal year 2024-25. The official documents outlining these distributions are available on the PSB website.

The allocated funds encompass both regular annual grants and specific special grants. Notably, seven federations are exclusively receiving special grants, foregoing the standard annual allocations.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) emerged as the primary beneficiary, securing a special grant of PKR 30.9 million (PKR 30,921,500). It has been reported that the PSB directly disbursed PKR seven million of this amount to the travel agency responsible for players’ tickets, bypassing the federation.

In a strategic policy change for the current fiscal year, the PSB will directly manage payments to vendors for expenses related to hockey, instead of channeling the funds through the PHF, as the PHF has not yet provided details of past expenditures.

The Athletics Federation of Pakistan received the second-highest allocation, amounting to over PKR 14.1 million (PKR 14,175,000), entirely designated as a special grant.

Reports indicate that PKR 10 million from this allocation is specifically earmarked by the PSB for the training regimen of elite athlete Arshad Nadeem.

Other significant allocations include PKR seven million for the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (comprising PKR two million in annual funding and PKR five million in special funding), PKR five million each for the Pakistan Volleyball, Handball, and Squash Federations, and PKR 4.1 million for the Alpine Club of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Tennis Federation received PKR 3.25 million, while the Kabaddi, Karate, and Wrestling Federations were each granted PKR three million.

Intermediate-level grants of PKR 2.5 million each were awarded to Bodybuilding and Tenpin Bowling, PKR 2.25 million to Table Tennis, and PKR two million to Winter Sports and Ju-Jitsu.

Smaller allocations of PKR 1.1 million were disbursed to the Badminton, Rugby, and Taekwondo Federations, while the Judo, Sailing, Wushu, Billiards, and Snooker Associations each received PKR one million.

The PSB’s total disbursement includes PKR 35.9 million in regular annual grants and PKR 66.1 million in specific special grants.
