KP Assembly Session Delayed Amid Quorum Concerns

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session on Sunday experienced delays as opposition members arrived, but the presence of lawmakers from the ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was notably sparse ahead of the oath-taking of members elected on reserved seats.

Sources indicate that only one PTI member, Abdul Salam, had arrived at the assembly building by the time of reporting.

Assembly sources suggest that the session might be quickly adjourned due to the absence of a quorum. Should an adjournment occur, the swearing-in of 25 newly elected members on reserved seats would be deferred.

Dr. Ibadullah, the Leader of the Opposition in the KP Assembly, told the media, “We have options if a quorum is challenged during the session.”

He further stated, “The oath-taking must proceed. If it does not, given it’s the PTI, we can anticipate anything.”

He asserted that the opposition and the government had already achieved a consensus regarding the Senate elections scheduled for Monday.

In light of the uncertainty, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has convened an emergency meeting of the PTI parliamentary group.

A party spokesperson verified that PTI legislators had been instructed to stay out of the assembly hall for the time being.

“The parliamentary party will be making a significant decision in today’s gathering,” the spokesperson added.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
