Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently met with Wang Hao, the Party Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, in Hangzhou to discuss various matters related to bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and China. During the meeting, Wang Hao extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister, who was visiting Zhejiang Province. The Prime Minister took the opportunity to express his admiration for the remarkable development achievements of Zhejiang Province, which he attributed to the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping during his tenure as Party Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee.
The Prime Minister was particularly impressed by the concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," which has guided Zhejiang Province's development. He this approach has enabled the province to achieve a harmonious balance between ecological conservation, green development, and high-quality economic growth. The Prime Minister believes that Zhejiang's development model offers valuable lessons for other regions, demonstrating how these three aspects can advance in a mutually reinforcing manner.
Pakistan has attached great importance to strengthening cooperation with Zhejiang Province, particularly in key areas such as the digital economy, e-commerce, information technology, telecommunications, agriculture, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and skills development. The Prime Minister emphasized that provincial cooperation is a vital pillar of Pakistan-China relations and can play a significant role in advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase II. This can be achieved through industrial cooperation, agricultural modernization, technology collaboration, and export-oriented development.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister witnessed the signing of two significant cooperation documents. The first was a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing a sister-province relationship between Zhejiang Province and Punjab Province. This MoU aims to promote cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. The second document was a cooperation agreement between Hangzhou Normal University and the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, which will establish the China-Pakistan Joint Technology Research Centre at the university. This centre will facilitate academic cooperation, applied research, technology exchange, and institutional linkages between Pakistan and China.
The Prime Minister's visit to Zhejiang Province and his meeting with Wang Hao underscore the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and China. The cooperation agreements signed during the visit are expected to further strengthen ties between the two countries, particularly in the areas of economic development, education, and technology. As Pakistan and China continue to work together, they are likely to achieve significant progress in advancing their shared goals and promoting mutual understanding and cooperation.
