Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a nationwide initiative to provide more than 100,000 electric bikes, 3,000 e-rickshaws, and 300,000 electric loaders through low-cost financing and subsidy programs. The effort targets unemployed youth and high‑achieving students, aiming to accelerate employment, sustainable transport adoption, and environmental preservation.
Under the scheme, top-performing students across educational boards will receive electric bikes free of charge. Meanwhile, unemployed individuals will be prioritized for the allocation of electric rickshaws and loaders to start self‑employment ventures. With a dedicated 25% quota for women, the initiative ensures inclusive access across urban and rural communities, including expansion support to provinces like Balochistan.
The government has mandated third-party validation and transparent distribution channels to ensure fairness and transparency. All vehicles must meet strict quality and safety standards, while public awareness campaigns will inform citizens of application procedures and participation criteria.
This program is grounded in Pakistan’s broader electric vehicle strategy, aiming to reduce fossil fuel dependence, promote localization in EV manufacturing, and stimulate job creation, particularly for young people in underserved areas.
Prime Minister Sharif directed team coordination across ministries to accelerate implementation and monitor progress. The EV intervention is expected to generate socioeconomic benefits, empower young entrepreneurs, and support a cleaner, modern transportation ecosystem in Pakistan.
