New Motorcycle Rule in Islamabad: What Riders Need to Know
Islamabad has taken a major step toward improving traffic management and security by extending the M-Tag requirement to motorcycles. This new regulation, announced by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, marks a significant change for riders across the capital.
Starting February 20, motorcycle owners will need to install M-Tags, just like cars and other vehicles. The process is simple: riders can visit one of 13 designated points across the city with their registration documents and national identity card.
The rule applies to all types of motorcycles, including regular bikes, Bykea motorcycles, heavy bikes, and other categories. This ensures that every rider is part of the city’s broader effort to streamline traffic and enhance safety.
So far, more than 600,000 vehicles have already been issued M-Tags, showing strong public participation in the campaign. For Bykea and online taxi services, registration is being handled separately to accommodate their unique operations.
Authorities emphasize that this initiative is not just about regulation—it’s about creating safer roads and more secure travel for everyone. With Islamabad’s growing population and increasing number of vehicles, the M-Tag system helps reduce congestion and makes monitoring easier.
Motorcycle owners are encouraged to cooperate with the campaign and get their tags installed promptly. By doing so, they contribute to a safer, more organized city where commuting becomes smoother and more reliable.
This new rule highlights Islamabad’s commitment to modernizing its transport system and ensuring that every rider plays a role in building a safer urban environment.
