Short sidelined with side strain during Jamaica training

JAMAICA: Prior to their T20I series against the West Indies, Australia has been dealt a setback. All-rounder Matt Short has been ruled out due to a minor side strain sustained on Sunday.

Young batter Jake Fraser-McGurk has been recalled for the five-match series in the Caribbean to take his place.

Ahead of the series opener, Short sustained the injury while training in Jamaica. He was removed from the squad and sent home for rehabilitation after a medical evaluation.

He is anticipated to be ready for Australia’s next white-ball series against South Africa, which begins on August 10 in Darwin.

Fraser-McGurk, who was on standby after initially missing out on selection, steps in after already replacing Spencer Johnson.

The 23-year-old batter has played in seven T20Is before, amassing 113 runs with a strike rate of 143.03.

Several seasoned players, including Travis Head, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, are being rested.

Notably, the five-match T20I series between Australia and West Indies is scheduled to commence on July 20 in Kingston, Jamaica.

The Australian team will play five T20I matches against the West Indies in Jamaica and St Kitts.
