Mukuhlani to Prioritize Africa T20 League, Afro-Asia Cup Revival, and Cricket at 2027 Africa Games

HARARE: Over the weekend, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, Chairman of Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), was chosen as the Chairman of the Africa Cricket Association. Among his initial goals are the revitalization of the Afro-Asia Cup and incorporating cricket into the 2027 Africa Games.

During their annual general meeting on Friday in Singapore, all 23 ACA member associations gave his selection their unanimous approval.

According to a statement released by ZC, Mukuhlani views his appointment as the dawn of a new period for cricket on the African continent.

He stated, “Today, we stand on the verge of a new era for African cricket, one marked by stronger governance, wider opportunities, and increased ambition. Let’s keep building on the advancements we’ve made, driven by a mutual love for the game and united by a shared goal.”

The ACA, which has full members Zimbabwe and South Africa, has lately undergone substantial administrative changes, including the adoption of a new memorandum of incorporation to improve governance and guarantee structural integrity.

Under Mukuhlani’s direction, the ACA is anticipated to promote crucial development projects, such as the Africa T20 competition that has been in the works for a while, the comeback of the Afro-Asia Cup, and the official inclusion of cricket in the Africa Games in Egypt in 2027.

Cricket was first played at the Africa Games in Ghana in 2023, and Zimbabwe took home gold in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

While Zimbabwe sent an emerging men’s team and a senior women’s squad, South Africa sent development teams to the competition.

Mukuhlani, who has served as Zimbabwe Cricket’s chair since 2015 and has been re-elected three times, also participates in the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
