Shastri Foresees Numerous Centuries for Rahul Amidst Strong Indian Play
MANCHESTER: Ravi Shastri, the former head coach for India, commended KL Rahul’s recent performance in Test matches. Shastri credited the opening batter’s successful run to a subtle yet significant refinement in technique.
Speaking on ICC digital platforms, Shastri suggested that Rahul’s present form has been anticipated for quite some time, given his inherent abilities.
“Virtually everyone acknowledged his potential and talent,” Shastri remarked.
“The concern was his failure to capitalize on such talent. However, this series showcases Rahul at his finest.”
Shastri pointed out a specific technical adjustment that has enabled Rahul to excel in the red-ball format.
“I’ve noticed a minor tweak in his front foot positioning, both in his stance and during defensive plays,” Shastri noted.
“This adjustment provides more clearance for his bat. Even when he aims towards mid-wicket, he connects with the full face of the bat.”
He clarified that Rahul’s earlier patterns, which included closing the bat face and leaning across, frequently resulted in dismissals through LBW or being bowled out.
“Now, he avoids closing the bat face unnecessarily, which caused issues previously. He appears more composed and technically proficient.”
Shastri anticipates Rahul entering his peak performance phase and potentially dominating Test cricket in the coming years, provided he sustains this level of play.
“He’s currently at his peak, and he should maximize the next three to four years,” Shastri commented.
“I expect him to achieve many centuries, particularly with India hosting numerous matches. I believe his average should approach 50 moving forward,” he concluded.
